Billing questions

How does per-second billing work?

A session is billed for the seconds it runs: from when it starts until you pause it or it ends (you release it, it reaches its timeout, or a browser-only session’s last client disconnects). There is no per-session fee.

For example, a 90-second browser session costs 90 seconds of the hourly rate: $0.045 × 90 / 3,600 ≈ $0.0011.

What counts as usage?

Usage is the metered part of your bill:

  • Browser sessions at $0.045 per hour.
  • Sessions with a shell, by the sandbox resources they use: $0.045 per vCPU-hour plus $0.013 per GiB-hour. A browser and shell on 1 vCPU and 3 GiB comes to about $0.084 per hour.
  • Saved state of paused sessions after the first 24 hours, at $0.05 per GB-month.
  • Data through the platform’s residential and datacenter proxies, per GB. Your own proxy has no data charge.

Your plan’s included usage (or the Free plan’s monthly credit) is applied to these charges first. The plan fee itself is separate.

Do paused sessions cost anything?

While a session is paused its running time is not billed. Its saved state is free for the first 24 hours, then costs $0.05 per GB-month until you resume or release it.

What happens when I reach a plan limit?

Each plan has four limits:

  • Concurrent sessions. When you already have as many sessions running as your plan allows, creating or resuming another one fails with a 429 concurrency_limit error until a running session ends or is paused.
  • Session length. Every session has a timeout (5 minutes by default) and ends when it runs out. You can ask for up to your plan’s maximum; a longer timeout is refused with 403 plan_limit. Pause a session before it times out if you want to keep its state.
  • Proxy data. Each plan caps the data you can use through the platform’s proxies in a calendar month. Once it is used up, asking for one of those proxies fails with 402 spend_limit until the 1st (UTC). Your own proxy is not capped.
  • Usage. On Free, usage is covered by the $5 monthly credit. On paid plans, usage above the included amount is billed at the per-unit rates on this page.

If you need more concurrency or longer sessions, move to a larger plan or talk to us about Scale.
